Wild life officials say that single tusk elephants roaming around the National Namal Park have been shot.

The elephant known as ‘Eka Danta’, which is native to Kalawewa National Park, has been shot.

According to a notification given by the officials of the Galkiriagama Wildlife Site Security Office regarding the elephant, a group of officers from the Nikaveratiya Wildlife Veterinary Unit in the Northwest Wildlife Zone are working to treat the elephant.

The wildlife officials said that many shots aimed at the elephant are seen all over the body of the elephant.

Several gunshot marks are also seen on the lower part of the front left leg of the elephant and wildlife officials suspect that they may have been caused by the firing of guns.
