Armed forces are called to protect the public

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena says that the President has issued an order to call the armed forces all over the island for public safety.

The Speaker stated today (22) in Parliament that this order has been issued according to the provisions of the 40th Authority Public Security Act.

“Considering the need for the maintenance of public order in accordance with the powers conferred on me by section 12 of the Public Security Act, which was the 40th authority, all members of the armed forces specified in the first schedule are called to maintain public order in the areas specified in the second schedule. An order has been issued. Accordingly, I hereby inform the Parliament that in accordance with Section 22/3 of the Ordinance Act to be read with Section 21/2. President of Sri Lanka”
