Cricketer Sachitra ordered to appear for a voice test

Recently (01), the Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered cricketer Sachitra Senanayake to appear before the government’s taster’s department to take a voice test for the investigation into the fixing of money in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2020 cricket tournament.

This order was issued when a complaint lodged by the Sports Corruption Prevention Unit against Sachitra Senanayake for match-fixing was summoned before the Kolomna Chief Magistrate Mr. Prasanna Alwis.

The Magistrate has also ordered Sachitra Senanayake, who is on bail, to go to the government’s inspectorate department and assist in the investigation in the event that the police informs them.

These investigations were initiated based on the complaint submitted by the Director General of Sports Mr. Gimal Fernando and the Sports Corruption Prevention Unit to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on August 14th.

The facts have been submitted to the court that this complaint has been made through local and international investigations regarding the cheating of the LPL tournament.

According to the facts that have been discovered so far, the sports unit has previously presented the facts to the court that it has been revealed through the investigation that the concerned suspect has decided to give 130 thousand rupees to each player.

The anti-corruption unit stated in the court that it has been proposed to give money to the two players Tharindu Ratnayake and Dhammika Prasath and according to the Sports Act No. 24 of 2019, this is a completely illegal act.

Last September, the player Sachitra Senanayake was also presented to the government’s taster department.

The Magistrate ordered to recall this complaint on May 17, 2024 and told to inform about the progress of the investigation on that day.
