✍️ To start off, could you briefly introduce yourself, Nipun?
My name is Nipun Dulanjana Wickramasinghe. My family consists of my mother, father, elder sister, and myself.
✍️ Is this artistic talent something you were born with? Are your family members involved in art as well?
Yes, absolutely. My father is very fond of art, and my sister is the same. I believe that seeing things from a completely different angle since childhood was something I picked up because of them. However, the path I am taking is a bit different from theirs. I am not someone who stays restricted to a single frame.
Art has many dimensions. For example, I pursued fine arts for my higher education, but I didn’t want to limit myself to just painting. I wanted to explore everything related to it. I have been studying photography since 2018, and today I practice it professionally. The knowledge I gained from fine arts was a massive strength for that. After painting, I first moved into graphic design. Except for a few things, almost all these fields are interconnected.
✍️ Would you like to remain in this specific field in the long run?
Honestly, I don’t like staying locked into just one field. My goal is to keep learning everything until my very last breath. Sometimes people might think that the different projects I do are as different as night and day. But that gathered knowledge is the only true wealth that can elevate us. That’s why I will keep learning across various fields as long as I live.
✍️ What kind of support do you get from your family?
The biggest support I get from home is that they never stand in the way of anything I choose to do. It was my sister who first introduced me to the field of graphic design. Somehow, I keep working on unique and fresh projects one after another.
✍️ What are your future ambitions?
I hope to establish a production house of my own, styled in a way that covers a full-scale studio environment. It won’t just be limited to photography; it will encompass Sound Recording, Music Production, Graphic Design, Photography, and more. I also aim to build a strong, trustworthy team to work alongside me.
✍️ What are your upcoming creative projects?
A new music video is currently in the works, which will be released within this year. I also have several photography assignments lined up and a few short films in production. Furthermore, you will soon be able to see a new YouTube channel where I’ll be sharing my journey and behind-the-scenes work with everyone.
✍️ You are also a talented rapper. Is it true that you got the opportunity to take your music to an international level?
Yes, that’s true. I have created tracks in collaboration with international artists.
✍️ Could you tell us a bit about that international collaboration?
Back in 2020, I met a friend from South Africa through social media. We discussed and agreed to work on our first joint track together. He recorded his vocals from his country and sent them over to me. I planned and handled all the remaining production work here in Sri Lanka. After completing the MP3 track, we shot the music video from our respective countries. Ultimately, it turned out to be a fantastic output. He even performed the song at live concerts over there, receiving immense love and appreciation from his audience. It was a featuring project that I truly enjoyed working on.
✍️ There must be people who helped you along this journey?
Yes, my mother, father, sister, her husband, and my close friends have helped me a lot. I would love to express my gratitude to all of them.
✍️ Since you are in your youth, we can’t miss talking about love. How do you see love?
