How is Mithila / Kasun? What are you doing these days?
We are fine. Kovid 19 tries to be as careful with the household as possible with the issue.

Please tell, whats the story of them big puppys …..
We both work professionally as bank managers in a private bank. We first met while working at the Embilipitiya branch of the same bank. From then until today there is a brotherhood that goes beyond friendship. We think that bond may have been the reason we were able to do our creations in good harmony.

How do you two relate to art?
Mithila: My big daddy was a musician. He has played the tabla in the first recordings of Sanath Nandasiri’s songs. My dad enjoys good music. I have been listening to music since I was a child. That must be my background. After high school, I wrote short poems for the Sunday Observer. That’s how I set out to write. Padmalatha, a former Sinhala teacher when I was 7, was the first to say that I could write. I still respect her.
Kasun: I am drawn to art because of my home background. I especially want to fondly remember my father Chandrasena Alagalla. He worked as an Advanced Level Commerce Teacher at Lumbini College, Colombo. But he was very artistic. He also worked as a songwriter and was a former deputy principal.
My uncle Siripla Alagalla is a music scholar and music teacher. So I had a musical background at home from a young age. Dad laid a great foundation to start my musical journey. Actually, I’m here today because of Dad. I first created three songs when I was eight years old. It was also a song written by my father. That is how he started this journey.
Amarasiri Peiris has tried to express the bond between our fathers in the song ‘Piya Rajune’ sung by him. That song is a tribute to all fathers.

Are you a songwriter professionally?
No. We create songs just for fun. It is the medium through which we express our feelings. We try to address various topics in it.

So what is your career?
Career is definitely to serve the country as a banker.

How did you get into songwriting while pursuing such a career?
Working in a bank is a bit of a challenge. We have less freedom most of the time. So we use the little space we have to find mental freedom through music. It has been a great help to us to do our job properly.

Let’s talk about the songs that have been created so far and the creations that are expected to be released in the future.
